It was another insane day of intense action on the water as stormy Sylt continued to deliver the goods. The competition started bright and early, with the women’s heats straight on the water and back into the North Sea.

With the waves bigger and better lined up, the judges elected to change the format slightly from the previous day, with the two best strapless freestyle tricks and two best waves counting towards the riders final scores. The conditions started off around 25 knots with the wind forecast to increase throughout the day: perfect conditions for the finals of the GKA Kitesurf World Cup to go down. – the GKA states.

After two days of competition Johanna-Catharina Edin takes home 4th place at the first GKA Kitesurf Event in Sylt & 3rd place in the best trick category. After a break of 1.5 years of competing, Johanna-Catharina is hungry for the next events. ⚡️

Johanna- Catharina Edin about the event in Sylt:
“It felt good finally being back competing again, after a 1.5 years break from competition due to the ongoing pandemic.
This was my first time representing FLYSURFER in a contest and I managed to get 4th place in the mixed discipline Strapless Freestyle/Wave. I was riding my 7m STOKE during the whole competition and managed to take home 3rd place in the best trick category with a frontroll board off, landed in the last 10 seconds of my heat in light wind conditions, with my BOOST 11m.

I was very nervous before the contest started since it’s been a long break and hard to know where you stand and where the level will be at this point. Some have been able to train more than others; I’ve been following some of my competitors’ social media and knew it was going to be tough since the level has increased a lot during the last year.

Even with quite some mistakes during my heats I still managed to make it well into the semi-finals.
The next contest will be held in Denmark at the beginning of September. I will enjoy a short break, reset and get ready for the upcoming competition.”
