VMG³ Trim Guide

To keep the full performance of your VMG³, we recommend our Trim Guide. The Trim Guide shows you how to check and adjust your bar setup, line lengths, and trim knots step by step.

Description

Velocity Made Good (VMG) is a mindset. It represents the most efficient path to peak race performance, enabling athletes to maximize speed and course efficiency. Designed to fly exceptionally far forward in the wind window, the VMG minimizes aerodynamic drag and converts available wind energy into forward drive with remarkable efficiency. Its extensive depower range allows riders to confidently use larger kite sizes across a broad spectrum of wind conditions while maintaining full control. This gives athletes the freedom to focus on race strategy, body positioning, and tactical decisions on the course. Consistent hydrofoil loading remains key to unlocking the kite's full performance potential.
The latest VMG generation delivers enhanced accessibility alongside measurable gains across every performance metric. Refined through extensive testing and feedback from world-leading athletes and podium contenders, it represents the pinnacle of modern Formula Kite Racing design. Developed for the 2028 Olympic cycle, the range incorporates five purpose-built constructions, each optimized for the specific demands of its size and operating window. Every panel layout, material selection, and manufacturing detail has been engineered to ensure exceptional consistency, quality, and fairness across the fleet. This approach not only provides athletes with equal equipment opportunities but also creates valuable sponsorship visibility to support their racing careers. The VMG is the result of a collective effort from athletes, designers, engineers, and partners who continue to push the boundaries of kite-racing performance.

Windrange

The wind range chart is to be used as a point of reference. It is based on a rider who weighs around 75kg (165lbs). Actual use will vary depending on your weight, skill level, board size/type (twintip or hydrofoil) and wind conditions on water or land. When choosing a kite size, always use common sense and repeatedly choose a smaller size if you are not sure, especially when using the kite on land.

Olympic Formula Kite Racing

Formula Kite Racing is the Olympic discipline of kiteboarding, where success is defined by Velocity Made Good (VMG), the ability to achieve the fastest effective progress toward the next mark rather than simply reaching the highest speed. Athletes race hydrofoils around a course marked by upwind and downwind legs, constantly balancing speed, angle, and tactical positioning to maximize their VMG. This creates a highly strategic format in which equipment efficiency, precise boat handling, and race management are equally important. The sport combines extreme performance with demanding tactical decision-making. Riders must optimize their course, react to changing wind conditions, manage interactions with competitors, and maintain consistent hydrofoil flight throughout the race. Upwind, the goal is to sail as efficiently as possible against the wind; downwind, athletes seek the optimal balance between speed and direction to reach the next mark in the shortest possible time. As the Olympic pathway for kiteboarding, Formula Kite Racing represents the pinnacle of the sport, bringing together world-class athletes, cutting-edge equipment, and relentless innovation. The format rewards precision, efficiency, and strategic excellence, making it one of the fastest and most technically advanced racing disciplines on the water.

Features

Hydro-Tech Construction

The VMG’s material mix is designed to enhance kite performance in various conditions. The Porcher skytex32 is used along the kites leading edge. It effectively absorbs moisture, particularly useful in humid climates, preventing water drop formation along the leading edge for uninterrupted airflow. The sizes 11, 15, 19 and 21 feature skytex32 leading edge and 10D canopy fabrics. The VMG³ 9 uses our tested TX-light fabric. All kite sizes are available in Dusty Pink, Blue Jewel, and Burgundy. The VMG³ 9 is only available in Dusty Pink.

Supported Top-Sail

The two-level bridle design requires an exceptionally rigid internal structure, achieved through integrated fiberglass rods within the ribs. These protected, replaceable rods reinforce the profile and minimize deformation, ensuring clean airflow and high in-flight stability. The result is a kite that delivers consistent performance and strong rider confidence to push performance limits.

Fine-Tuned Sizes

The VMG’s refined constructions reduce weight by up to 400 g, improving downwind performance and overall control. Sizes 15, 19, and 21 feature our low-drag two-level Dyneema bridle design, while the 11 m incorporates an active brake system to enhance downwind efficiency and feedback. The 9 m uses a three-level design with an active brake system, optimized for high-wind conditions and maximum control in demanding situations.
