SnowKiteMasters at Col du Lautaret15.Jan.2013:
Last week the SnowKiteMasters at the Col du Lautaret in the French Alps took place for the 9th time in a row. This awesome snowkite event attracts riders from all over the world to gather for a week in some of the best mountain snowkite conditions you can imagine. Flysurfer as long-time SKM partner of course was there in full force with test opportunities and team riders.
This year the SKM fulfilled the promise, with a week full of sunshine and light winds, the event proofed to be a show-stopper once again. The main focus of the event is the snowkite freestyle world championships in both Ski and Snowboard. Were almost 70 competitors from all over the world took part. The event organizers and judges pushed hard to pull the whole double elimination through until the end, utilizing every breath of wind for the competitors, with an awesome freestyle park with kickers and sliders of all sorts and even a ‘PistenBully’ to provide a great and perfect competition area each day.
The Flysurfer team, which cherish the SKM since the beginning, was there in full force with riders like Lukash, Lennart, Yusca, Lolo, Abe, Benoit, Alex, Amaury and many more. After a great single-elimination in both Ski & Freestyle, 2x Flysurfer teamriders were both at the podium, in freestyle Ski newest addition Benoit Miquel from France had a great competition with an awesome show for the audience, making his way to the podium with an awesome 2nd place result in his first snowkite world championship after the single elimination. Lennart van Schuilenburg from the Netherlands, which has proved to be able to perform in previous snowkite event was consistent and made it’s way into the semi-finals where he was stopped by event winner Marek Zach.
The next day, the double elimination was started and all competitors fought hard to get back in the race for the podium positions, both Benoit and Lennart did their utmost best to remain their podium positions, but both lost in close heats. Meaning they slide down 1 position on the ladder. Meaning a well deserved 3rd place for Benoit and a 4th place for Lennart after a full competition.
Flysurfer wants to thank their teamriders for a great show, the team-spirit and awesome action on the spot and the event organizers and judges for an awesome snowkite event.
We will see you all next year!
